The Mushroom Show | Episode 5511

Big things come in small packages and fungi are no different. Even though they don't take up mush-room, in ag production mushrooms have the ability to decompose organic material, and help balance the nitrogen levels in soil. Mushrooms can also damage crops and plants, causing major losses in agricultural activities and food production. Dealing with fungi unprepared could cost farmers dearly. Mycologist Cathy Cripps, MSU professor with a PhD in the bioscience of fungi, joins the panel this week to help ensure farmers are as prepared as possible when dealing with all kinds of mushrooms. With her help, you'll be able to identify different types of mushrooms, know how each type affects the environment, and even be prepared for specialty mushroom farming to reap the benefits of fungi. Some of those mushrooms are mighty tasty, too.
