Higgins Ridge

On Aug. 4, 1961, a group of smokejumpers found themselves in the middle of a raging wildfire with no escape. A skilled helicopter pilot from Missoula’s Johnson Flying Service set out into the Idaho backcountry to search for the men in the flames and smoke. A dozen survivors – now in their 80s – remember the fire they thought might be their last in the upcoming Montana PBS documentary “Higgins Ridge.”  Join us for a special screening of the film on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Wilma in downtown Missoula.  Doors open at 7 p.m.  Montana PBS will broadcast the film early in 2023.
