About the Film:
BARD IN THE BACKCOUNTRY is a documentary film that chronicles the summer 2013 season of Montana Shakespeare in the Parks. The film will feature the current season’s cast of ten professional actors from around the U.S. as they encounter the Montana landscape, culture and people. As these young actors travel hundreds of miles each day to set up the stage, don their costumes and perform, they learn about the discipline of a traveling company, the generosity of spirit required in all team endeavors, and the mileage and grandeur spread across the state of Montana. The landscape itself becomes a primary force in the lives of this company as they perform 67 shows in ten weeks. This tour will lead them into the lives of people in communities as small as fourteen people. Many are loyal fans of Montana Shakespeare in the Parks who have seen Shakespeare performed every summer for forty years. At the heart of this film is intense metamorphosis, for the current season’s cast, past performers, and residents of Montana whose lives have been touched by this beloved company.
