Jazz quartets became the mainstay of jazz music once this genre moved out of the big band era and out of the dance hall, onto the concert stage. The evolution of Jazz takes quantum leaps as variations of world music braid into American jazz. From Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck , and a host of others, jazz music developed and continues to develop in a hundred directions. The great guitarists Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Les Paul, and Charlie Christian paved the way. Craig Hall palpably reveals just how far jazz guitar has come, and where it is going.
