11th & Grant With Eric Funk

11th & Grant with Eric Funk is the premiere outlet for music performance in Montana, seeking out the state's most acclaimed, accomplished, and pioneering talent. The Emmy winning performance series also devotes significant time to each artist's personal story, insights into their music and their approach to life, ultimately providing a deeper experience than a seat at a concert. Accomplished composer and musician Eric Funk serves as host and artistic director, hand selecting each performer from communities around the state to form a diverse series featuring genres from jazz to classical, country to zydeco, and rock to fusion.

Vanguard (No. 102)

First Aired Thursday, October 27, 2005

Vanguard is a jazz quartet of four young men from Helena.

Vanguard is a jazz quartet of four young men from Helena who play with a smooth honesty and intention that sets them apart. Monte Grise (saxophones) and Jeremy Slead (drums) are both music teachers in the public schools. Mark Walker (piano), who used to play trumpet with the Helena Symphony, is a chemical engineer and Rennan Rieke (bass), works in communications/computers for the State of Montana. All Montana natives, this quartet's pure joy of performing their and other's arrangements of tunes is truly evident from the "standard repertoire" to the "favorites" of jazz music fans.
