Media Mavericks aims to elevate and empower Montana’s teen voices by providing an authentic audience for the stories that matter to them. We provide real-world journalistic experiences and an opportunity to share ideas and diverse perspectives with a nation-wide audience.

With multiple curricular pathways and project options, teachers have the support and resources necessary to teach relevant, career-ready skills that will inspire engagement and creativity in their students. No training or experience needed. Our free, editable resources engage students in projects that encourage civic engagement, creative expression, and place-based storytelling. Video tutorials, templates, writing prompts, graphic organizers, and more are available to support teachers and students every step of the way. We partnered with KQED Youth Media Challenge to provide a national platform for student-content so when your students are ready to submit their work, they can know that it will be viewed by people all over the country.

Students need and want to learn real-world skills that will support their transition from high school to higher education or the workforce. Teachers need highly-engaging projects and lessons to keep their students vibrant and energetic. Media-making helps kids learn important skills from research to writing and filming techniques to technical editing. When students and teachers can enjoy a breadth of project options and support while also understanding the value of their work in the context of the “real-world”, the extent of their success is unlimited.
