Jewish America: The Making Of The West

For centuries Jews have fled persecution and displacement in the hope of finding a home in which they could be free to follow their convictions. As the American West opened up, waves of Jewish immigrants tested the promise of the American Dream. At a time in American history when a person was gauged by the value of his or her contribution to the conquest and development of an untamed land, Jews contributed at every level in the new society. They were explorers, artists, farmers, mayors, sheriffs and some were outlaws. This program chronicles a unique chapter in American and Jewish history.
