Billing Montanans: 2 Family Tax Stories

First Aired Thursday, October 04, 2012

This program follows Montana families and their property tax and state income tax dollars.

Every election year politicians love to talk about taxes, but how much do we really know about where our Montana tax dollars go? Would better information help the conversation? This program follows two Montana families and their tax dollars. The first family in Great Falls tracks their property tax dollars. The second family in Missoula follows their state income tax money. The families learn fascinating results about where their taxes go. These citizens also raise the idea of better ways local and state government can inform taxpayers. By the end of the program we'll see how one Montana county government is already making changes to get clearer tax information to their citizens.
